Winners of the Rivermark Halloween Decorating Contest!

I am proud to announce the winners of the first annual Rivermark Halloween Decorating Contest!

Thank you again to all who participated! As a community we all benefit from decorating for the holidays. Not only do children (and adults) enjoy the lights, decor, and pleasant holiday atmosphere, but it also affects our housing values in a positive way. I always loved visiting neighborhoods where each house was lit and decorated for Christmas or Halloween. With your help, we are on our way to making Rivermark one of those neighborhoods. Without further adieu, here are our winners:

First Place - 4292 Burdick Lane

Second Place - 4471 Billing Circle

1st Runner Up - 4209 Marsten Lane

2nd Runner Up - 875 East River Parkway

3rd Runner Up - 1109 Doyle Circle

Winners should except to receive their prizes by the end of the weekend!

Happy Diwali Everyone!

Diwali is a significant holiday in many Indian cultures and is also known as the Festival of Lights. You probably have noticed several homes decorated with lights, candles, and small tea lights throughout Rivermark. If you want to learn more about Diwali, here is a Wiki link: Happy Diwali!

Halloween 2009 Decorating Contest!

There is nothing like walking or driving through a neighborhood and seeing homes decorated for the holidays. Rivermark is already well known for impressive Halloween decorations and attracts hundreds of trick-or-treaters each year (we had almost 300 visit our townhome in 2008).  I would be proud to sponsor the first Halloween Decorating Contest in Rivermark.

The rules are simple.  Homes with the most impressive Halloween displays on Sunday, Oct 25th will win lucrative prizes.  Why Oct. 25th? This will give everyone in the community a whole week to enjoy your decorations before Halloween!  The 3 criteria for the contest will be decor, lighting, and creativity.  We will also be doing a pre-screening Saturday, Oct 24th between 6-9pm.  If you want to be considered for the competition it is important that you leave your lit decorations on at this time, so that we can easily identify homes with decorations.  Winners will be notified by Oct. 28th!

Welcome to the Rivermark Blog!

Hi everyone! My name is Sarah Luther Santos, and I have enjoyed being a resident of Rivermark for the past four years.  I think that we are fortunate to live within such a wonderful community comprised of such eclectic and friendly residents.

As a professional photographer, I am appreciative of Rivermark's beauty and the care that goes into its upkeep.  I feel lucky to live in such a pristine neighborhood surrounded by people who care for and take pride in their homes and community.  It's important to keep in mind that a collection of homes--even beautifully build and landscaped--is not a community without communication.  I believe Rivermark to be different from other neighborhoods, in which individuals and families may live their lives essentially isolated within their homes, often unaware of their immediate neighbors.

I chose to start this blog because I am aware of the unique qualities of our neighborhood and its residents, people who care about what is going on in Rivermark and who have genuine human interest in their neighbors.

I have enjoyed reading the various Yahoo Group emails from neighbors about things happening in our community and felt that this blog could become a centralized place for such communication: a site which we can use to keep track of news, events, and links to useful information--including the many groups and clubs that you can join here in Rivermark.  I also plan to post neighborhood photos and create a few fun things such as holiday decorating contests (with prizes). I will be sure to post information about the first contest very soon.

Thank you for stopping by and please feel free to email me anytime if you would like to share news, feedback, or would like to post something here (sarah.luther *at* Thanks!
